a covering over the stainless braid, or is the braid exposed to the elements? Reason I'm asking is because if the braid is exposed, dirt can get between the braid and the Teflon hose it covers, causing a failure such as you have just experienced. This is why stainless braided lines are not recommended for street cars, and don't meet DOT regs. Most of the newer stainless lines now have an additional outer covering to prevent dirt from getting between the stainless braid and the Teflon inner hose. Glad your OK.
